El Jefe Meats ("we", "us", "our") operates this website and the online ordering service available through it. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we store and protect it, and the rights you have over it.

What information we collect

When you place an order or send us a catering enquiry, we collect only what we need to serve you:

• Your name — so we know who the order belongs to
• Your email address — to send your order confirmation and receipt
• Your phone number — so we can contact you quickly if something changes with your order
• Your order details — the items you ordered, your chosen pickup time, and any notes you add (for example, allergies or preparation requests)

That's it. We do not collect any other personal information, and we only ever collect it directly from you.

What we never collect or store

We never see or store your credit or debit card details. All payments are processed by Stripe, a specialist payment provider certified to the highest international security standard (PCI DSS Level 1). Your card details go directly from your device to Stripe — they never touch our website or our database. You can read Stripe's privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.

How we use your information

We use your personal information to:

• Prepare and fulfil your order
• Send you your order confirmation and receipt
• Contact you about your order if we need to (for example, if an item becomes unavailable)
• Respond to your catering enquiries
• Send you occasional news, specials and offers from El Jefe Meats
• Meet our legal obligations, such as keeping business and tax records

By placing an order with El Jefe Meats you accept our Terms of Service and agree to receive emails from us at the address you provide — both service emails about your order and occasional emails with El Jefe Meats news, specials and offers. Every marketing email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time by using that link or by emailing us at hola@eljefemeats.co.nz.

We never sell, rent or trade your personal information to anyone.

Who we share your information with

We do not sell your information to third parties — ever. Your information is shared only with the small number of trusted service providers that make this website run — such as Stripe, which processes your payment securely, Google, which provides our website analytics, and the providers that host our website and deliver our emails — and only to the extent needed to serve you.

Beyond that, we will only disclose personal information where the law requires it (for example, to a court or a government agency exercising lawful powers).

Overseas storage

Some of our service providers store information on secure servers located outside New Zealand. In line with the Privacy Act 2020, we use only reputable providers that are subject to privacy and security safeguards comparable to those required under New Zealand law, including encryption of your information in transit and at rest.

Cookies and your browser

We keep things minimal:

• Your shopping cart is stored in your own browser, on your own device — not on our servers
• We use Google Analytics to understand how people find us and what they order. It sets cookies that give your browser a random identifier, so we can tell a returning visit from a new one. It does not tell us your name, and we never join it up with your order details. Google processes and stores this information overseas.
• As well as pages viewed, we record when something is added to a cart, when a checkout is started, when an order is completed and its value, and when a catering enquiry is sent
• We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not sell browsing data
• You can opt out any time using your browser's cookie settings or a blocker — the site works exactly the same

How we protect your information

Your information is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. Access to order information is restricted to authorised El Jefe Meats staff and protected by authentication. We review our security practices regularly.

How long we keep it

We keep order records only as long as we need them to run the business and to meet our legal obligations (New Zealand tax law requires business records to be kept for 7 years). Information that is no longer needed is deleted or anonymised.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Ask us to correct it if it is wrong

To do either, email us at hola@eljefemeats.co.nz — we will respond as soon as reasonably practicable, and no later than 20 working days after your request, as the Act requires.

Privacy breaches

If a privacy breach ever occurs that causes, or is likely to cause, serious harm, we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and the affected people as required by the Privacy Act 2020.

Complaints

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first at hola@eljefemeats.co.nz — we take privacy seriously and will do our best to resolve it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available on this page, with the "last updated" date shown at the top.
